The Abundant Life Baptist Church was founded by Pastor Tyrone G. Jefferson, Jr., along with twenty other individuals in 1995 who shared and saw the vision of the Pastor. A formal meeting was called at the home of Bro. Cordell Chambliss, also a member of the ministry. Pastor Jefferson stated his vision and expressed what the Lord had spoken to him concerning the Abundant Life Baptist Church. A week later, Pastor Jefferson and the congregation moved to the home of Sis. Brenda King and begin having worship services there. The church began to grow and explode, thereby needing another facility to house the saints of God.

Pastor Jefferson and the Board of Trustees leased a building at 1920 Franklin Ave. and remained there for approximately four years. With the church still growing, Pastor Jefferson stated it was time for us to locate property to purchase for a new worship facility. The church was blessed to purchase a double house with a beauty salon next to it. Pastor Jefferson planned to make the double house the new worship facility and the beauty shop would become the fellowship hall. Well, the vision became a reality! The church continued to grow as the Lord kept blessing the ministry.

In August of 2005, the Hurricane Katrina came and everything was lost. Members were displaced, uncertain about their return, the church lay in ruins, and it appeared all hope was gone. The Lord spoke to Pastor Jefferson in the still of the night, saying:

Pastor Jefferson obeyed the voice of God and began rebuilding Abundant Life Tabernacle. It took some time, but soon members started returning back to New Orleans and heard Abundant Life was opened for worship. The church started growing like never before. Pastor Jefferson saw great things for the ministry and encouraged the people by telling them;:

The membership began increasing so fast, Pastor Jefferson had to incorporate an additional worship service. The Lord then blessed the church with additional property!!!! The site located on Franklin Ave.; once a medical center and dialysis clinic became the new worship center! The new building includes administrative offices, a bookstore, and youth after school program center, senior citizens activity center, multi-purpose center, and voter’s poll.

The Arts St property was turned back into a duplex, bringing additional revenue to the church. The fellowship hall became our meeting site, various functions of the many ministries are held there, as well as another location for voters to cast their votes.

It’s evident the Lord’s hands are upon our ministry by the way He continues to bless our church. With God on our side, it’s no telling what’s going to happen next!!!!!!!
